GOLD MEDAL BOOKS

FIRST an APOLOGY

To ALL THOSE WHO SENT ME E-MAILS, SCANS ETC.
In the beginning . . . I did promise to acknowledge all contributions to this site. That was before I realised how much work would be entailed in:
a) The continuous addition of titles, cover scans and blurb;
b) the addition and updating of the various indexes(indices); (I intend that there should be a title index as well as the current author, character and stock number index. This points more and more too the need for a database structure and/or a search facility. In other words update the record and the indexes are automatically updated.)
c) regular changes to the "guess the title" pages.
I will continue to try to acknowledge contributions, but I believe you will agree with me that maintaining the growth of the site is more important than a few simple thankyous. May I, on behalf of myself and all those who are interested in this site, take this opportunity to thank all those who have contributed or will contribute in future. Without your efforts this site would not be what it is or reach the levels it will reach in the future.

With the high volume of changes I am making, many errors are sure to creep in. If you should notice any, please let me know. This includes mis-formatting, mis-spelling, invalid links and anything else you may think is not correct or can be improved.

A very BIG "THANKYOU"

To Kirk Amspoker
For all those Matthew Helm covers and the write up on Number 18.

To Ed Barnard of Minnesota, USA
For the interesting discussions on the differences between various reprints of Shell Scott paperbacks and the synopsis of "Dance with the Dead."

To Brent
For those "Sam Durell" Gold Medal cover scans & write-ups.

To Bob (Robert E.) Briney of Salem, Massachusetts, USA
For his kind words, all those cover scans, the biographical notes on Giles A.Lutz and his suggestions and photostat lists containing publisher's stock numbers. I have included these in the book descriptions.

To Steve Brown of Blacksburg, Virginia, USA
For setting me right about Richard S. Prather's later books which were published by Pocketbooks and not Gold Medal. This, in turn, led me to discover other authors had switched publishers during their careers.

To Matt Corwin
For letting me have details of those stock numbers missing from my list. He obtained these from Kevin Hancer's PRICE GUIDE TO PAPERBACK BOOKS and "an article by Peter Chapman in Paperback Parade #33, and some notes (I've) taken over the last few years."

To Carel de Jager of South Africa
For interesting investigations into the cover artists of the certain Shell Scott GOLD MEDAL novels. It was great fun to discover that Bob McGinnis illustrated the covers of a number of Shell Scott novels as well as a number of the American editions of Carter Brown novels.

To William Denton
For his bibliography of John D. MacDonald's books.

To Dime Box Books
I took the liberty of using some of the GOLD MEDAL covers displayed at this site. The first cover, I used was "Sumuru" by Sax Rohmer.

To the EBAY Search facility
which allowed me to find a lot of covers. Gee! If I lived in the USA (an earned US dollars) my collection would be twice as big. There are thousands of books on sale at EBAY. This is my main source of cover scans. I have obtained a few from Yahoo and Amazon.com auctions.

To Graeme Flanagan of Australia
Whose Robert McGinnis Website provided a number of scans for this site.

To Chris Holden
For visiting the site. You'll see I have corrected the spelling mistake, Chris!

To Kirk Johnson of Nashville
For your interesting and informative comments on GOLD MEDAL authors.

To Kent Johnson of San Francisco
For the "HIGH HELL" cover scan and the promise of more Frazee covers.

To Larry (Dr. Lawrence) Knapp
For the cover scans I obtained from his Sax Rohmer site and for including a link to this site.

To Kevin McClurkan(I think?)
For the write up ( jpeg cover to follow) for The Skeleton Coast Contract.

To Natanis@PacBell.Net webmaster of Matt Helm's Homepage at . . . Oops! I've lost the URL :(
For the full list of Matt Helm books and Donald Hamilton's other books.

To Frank Paccassi of Trinidad
For the first publication dates of Sam Durell books I don't have in my collection, the correction of author on Assignment Unicorn and the addition of Assignment Deathship. . .
and those back cover "blurbs" for the John D. MacDonald books.
Also for his ideas of Original title(Other title/s) and series numbering which I have so far implemented on the John D. MacDonald pages.

To Dennis Power
For the Prather covers: Find this Woman; Darling its Death; Bodies in Bedlam; Dig that Crazy Grave and Double in Trouble.

To John Sohl of California
For all that Dan J. Marlowe info, cover scans and back cover blurbs.

To the folks at Tawdry Town
For a number of cover scans and an interesting article on GOLD MEDAL Books in their 2nd Edition

To Jon Warren of Chattanooga
Author of the book THE OFFICIAL PRICE GUIDE TO PAPERBACKS (House of Collectibles, 1991) from which a great deal of the information used on this site, particularly in regards stock numbers and original publication dates, is taken.

Don't forgive me! Reprimand me! All contributions should be acknowledged!
