ORIGIN OF THIS SITE:
This web site is dedicated to the books in the
GOLD MEDAL, RED SEAL and CREST imprints published by Fawcett. I am a collector
of what you might call light reading paperbacks. Stories from some of my
favourite authors and featuring my favourite characters were published in GOLD
MEDAL books. I would be happy to hear from others who also gained pleasure from
reading these books and can provide me with more information about the publisher
and the series. Front cover scans of GOLD MEDAL, RED SEAL and CREST books which
I don't have and earlier editions will be welcomed. A write up on books I don't
have will also be welcomed. A scan or transcript of the back page will usually
suffice.
COVER SCANS & WRITE-UPS:
Unfortunately, due to the
fact that I do not live in the United States, my collection does not only
consist of GOLD MEDAL originals but contains a large number of English and other
reprints. In addition, I have come to realise that cover layouts of the Gold
Medal books were apt to change from reprint to reprint. The publishers quite
often did not indicate the reprint history in these reprints. I have used the
earliest cover available to me.
NOT A FAWCETT PUBLICATION:
It
should be noted that some of the titles listed on these pages were never
published by FAWCETT. Some authors moved from the publisher later in their
career or started with other publishers. Where I am sure a book was not
published by FAWCETT, I will indicate this with the statement "Not a Fawcett publication". I have included titles
published by other publishers in author pages for the sake of
completeness.
CREST AND RED SEAL BOOKS:
CREST Books were also
published by Fawcett. It would appear that the original idea was to publish only
paperback originals under the GOLD MEDAL imprint and paperback copies under the
CREST imprint. However, Fawcett don't seemed to have enforced this rule rigidly,
particularly in the later years. RED SEAL books were a small imprint of thicker,
more expensive paperbacks published by FAWCETT. A number of titles published
under the RED SEAL and CREST imprints, were later reprinted under the GOLD MEDAL
imprint. One book, "That French Girl" by Joseph Hilton, originally published as
a GOLD MEDAL book, was later published as a CREST book
PUBLISHER'S
STOCK NUMBERS:
I am now trying to include the publisher's stock number of
every edition of each book listed here. This is sure to take a lot of work and
will probably never be complete. I'm am able to do this thanks to the photostats
provided by Robert Briney. I do however only have the numbers for GOLD MEDAL
books between 1949 and 1969 and for Crest books between 1955 and 1963 and the
lists are not complete.
